How to Change my screen display properties

Display Properties

With Windows XP select Start, Settings Control Panel and look for this icon

or simply click the show desktop icon at the bottom left-hand of your screen, right-click in a blank area and select properties.

This will open the display properties window; Select Settings and change the screen resolution to 1024 x 768 and select apply, you will be asked if you want to accept these settings, select OK.

If you find the screen shaky, select advanced and then the monitor Tab.  There should be a screen refresh rate selection menu.  If offered select 75Hz or anything greater than 60Hz.

You will again be prompted for confirmation.

If the your selection is invalid, wait 15 seconds and then the screen will restore the old settings.  (Some older monitors especially 14" cannot handle a refresh rate of >60Hz.)

Windows 98

If you are still running Windows 98, the procedure is the same as above except when you try and adjust the refresh rate, you may get the options of Default and Optimal only.  This means that the monitor driver installed is the default plug and play monitor.  You can try installing a different monitor driver.

Installing a different monitor
